Predator
The wolf in the traveler's cloak. Defender in leather.

“It comes in a sheep's fleece. Inwardly, it is a ravening wolf.”
The calling
On the roads east of the gilded city, travelers have learned to fear the stranger who asks to share their fire. He will be pleasant. He will be humble, dusty, a little lame, and very grateful for the bread. He will sit close to the weakest of them. And when the fire burns low, the cloak will fall away, and there will be claws.
The Predators of the gilded city learned their craft from the wolves that hunt the edges of the world: packs larger and bolder than any shepherd has ever seen, wolves that no longer fear fire, wolves that no longer fear anything. The Predator watched how they hunted. How they cut the weakest from the herd. How they guarded one another's flanks. How a single howl in the evening could send a whole caravan fleeing into the dark. And the Predator decided that a man could hunt like that too.
They wear leather, never plate, because plate is slow and a wolf is never slow. They fight with paired claws of bronze that open wounds which do not close. And they are never stronger than when the pack is near them. A Predator alone is dangerous. A Predator running with companions is a terror that clears the road.
In battle
You open the fight in disguise, walking right up to the enemy as a harmless traveler before your first blow lands like a trap snapping shut. Then you are everywhere: weaving through strikes, tearing with your claws, leaving foes bleeding as you turn to the next. Every companion at your side makes you hit harder and slip more blows. When too many enemies crowd in, a single howl sends them scattering in terror.
Where the Shepherd guards, the Predator hunts. Both slip through a fight like smoke. Only one of them leaves blood behind.
Strengths
- More damage than the Shepherd, with bleeding wounds that keep working after you have moved on.
- Stronger with every ally. Each companion near you raises your damage and your avoidance.
- The ambush. Sheep's Clothing lets you walk up to an unaware enemy and strike first, for heavy damage.
- Fear. Your evening howl sends nearby enemies fleeing, buying the pack a few precious seconds.
- Avoidance over armor, slipping blows that other defenders must absorb.
Weaknesses
- Protects others less than the Shepherd. Your company takes more damage while you hunt.
- Weaker alone. Pack Hunter gives nothing when no ally is near, so a solo Predator loses much of its edge.
- Hits land hard. When the dodges stop coming, leather does little to soften the blow.
- Demanding to play well. Disguise, bleeds, fear and positioning all reward a sharp mind.

Choose the Predator if
You love the ambush, the flurry and the hunt. You want to be fast, relentless and fiercely loyal to your pack. Know what you are choosing: the Predator feeds on the weak, and the gilded city loves it for exactly that. Every hunt feeds the hunger, and a Predator who runs long enough forgets the face beneath the fleece. But a wolf can still turn at the edge of the firelight, and some of the greatest guardians the faithful have ever known began their lives on the other side of the fire.
